Harpy Vintage is a mother-daughter curated vintage and second-hand shop featuring gender-inclusive clothing, accessories and home goods.

We take great joy in sourcing items that feel timeless and grounded, with a dash of mythic magic. Those witchy friends living on a woodsy island in the middle of the Salish Sea? That’s us.

When you shop Harpy, you are supporting a spoonie-owned business.

Slow-living free from the toxicity of fast-fashion is important to us. We search for special, pre-loved pieces to help you build an intentional, sustainable wardrobe.

WHY HARPY?

In Greek and Roman mythology, Harpies are depicted as monstrous beings—a ‘bird of prey with a woman’s head and breasts, a large beak, hooked nails, a vile odour and an insatiable appetite’.* We chose the Harpy for our name and figurehead because to us, they represent all those whose agency, whose transgressions from traditionally accepted stereotypes, undermine and threaten patriarchal ideology.

They might be cast as monsters, but to be called one is no insult. We think it’s time we reclaimed the word. Harpies take up space, raise their voices, and unapologetically refuse to make themselves palatable to a society afraid of their power.

WHY gender-INCLUSIVE?

We believe in clothing for all bodies—period.

Wear what you want to wear, however you want to wear it.

WHY second-hand?

Buying second-hand / vintage is the most affordable way to shop without harming the planet. Pre-owned clothes allow you to add carefully selected items to your wardrobe and home without using additional resources in the manufacturing process.

The fashion industry is responsible for 8-10% of global carbon emissions, uses massive amounts of water, and exploits workers and animals worldwide. Buying clothes that already exist slows down the fast fashion cycle and the relentless demands on low-paid workers in the supply chain. You’re also keeping clothes out of landfills by giving them a new life and discovering unique and special pieces along the way.’*

Shop second-hand, throw swap-parties with your friends, choose alternatives to the wasteful culture of fast-fashion.

We are located on the Coast Salish lands of Tscha-kole-chy (SHA-KOL-CHI).
